Officer Training

Secretary Training

Practical guidance for lodge secretaries — records, reports, meetings, and the duties of the station.

Course Overview

What This Course Covers

Built for current and incoming lodge secretaries.

The Secretary is the chief operating officer of the lodge. This course walks current and incoming lodge secretaries through the full scope of the role — from the visible work of recording minutes and handling correspondence, to the behind-the-scenes administrative work that keeps a lodge running smoothly.

The duties of a Secretary are numerous, varied, and at times time-consuming — but a Secretary who manages his time effectively will find most tasks fit into a minimal amount of spare time. This course covers the full range of responsibilities: recording meeting minutes, managing correspondence, submitting monthly membership reports to the Grand Secretary's Office, processing dues billing and collection, maintaining member records, handling degree and affiliation applications and demits, coordinating with the Treasurer on deposits, and serving as the lodge's primary point of contact with Grand Lodge.
